Our Team

John is the Founder and President of CTCA. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of West Michigan. John is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner and is a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA). He holds a bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Michigan and an MBA in Finance from Keller Graduate School of Management. His responsibilities include overseeing the firm’s strategic direction along with financial planning development and oversight, portfolio management, and client service.

Prior to CTCA, John spent the first part of his career in corporate & commercial banking throughout the Southeast and Midwest. He served in various portfolio management, credit underwriting, and management roles.

John enjoys volunteering in the community having served on several community boards and coached numerous youth sports teams. He is a past president of Northern Community Mediation Board, and currently serves in the North Central Michigan College Foundation Investment Committee. John is also a long-time member of the Petoskey Sunrise Rotary Club. He loves living in Petoskey with his wife, Joan, and their two sons.

Courtney is a Principal member of CTCA. She is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNING™ professional and is a member of the Financial Planning Association. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Hobart and William Smith College. Courtney has a broad background in financial services. Prior to joining CTCA, she spent 16 years in various advisory, sales, and portfolio management roles for a large wirehouse and a regional bank. Her responsibilities are primarily focused on financial plan development and client servicing. She specializes in retirement planning and Social Security claiming strategies.

Courtney currently serves on the Board of Directors and the Finance Committee for the McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital Foundation, Board of Directors and the Investment Committee for the Petoskey Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation, and the Finance Committee for the Women’s Resource Center of Northern Michigan. She has also served as a board director and board president of the Zonta Club of Petoskey, the board treasurer for the Women’s Resource Center of Northern Michigan, and on the Board of Directors for the Kiwanis Club of Harbor Springs. She also sits on the Investment Committee for the Fishtown Preservation Society.

Courtney lives in Petoskey, Michigan with her husband and their two children.

Joan has been with Crooked Tree Capital Advisors since the firm’s founding. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Packaging Engineering from Michigan State University and a Master of Business Administration from Xavier University. Joan also holds the Claritas Investment Certificate from the CFA Institute. She oversees all the operational and administrative support responsibilities that are critical to delivering a successful client experience. Joan has served on the Petoskey Education Foundation Board of Directors and is actively involved in various activities throughout the community. She lives in Petoskey with her husband and their two sons.

Bill is a CFP® certificant. He also holds his Accredited Asset Management Specialist (AAMS) designation. He holds his bachelor's degree from Central Michigan University. Before joining CTCA, he was a financial advisor for a large brokerage firm for four years. Bill currently serves on the boards of the Sunrise Rotary Club, Petoskey Little League, and local YMCA. He Lives in Petoskey, Michigan with his wife and two children.
